Meryl Streep and Don Gummer have been the epitome of a Hollywood power couple, with their enduring marriage captivating fans for decades. So, when the news broke that they had been living separate lives for six years after a 45-year-long marriage, it raised quite a few eyebrows.
The Oscar-winning actress, 74, and the renowned sculptor, 76, marked their 45th wedding anniversary on September 30, a celebration that came six years after they called it quits on their romantic relationship. Despite the end of their romance, they remain partners in life, supporting each other personally and professionally.
“Although Meryl Streep and Don Gummer have been living separately for over six years, they continue to care deeply for each other and have chosen to lead separate lives,” confirmed Streep’s representative. Eagle-eyed fans also noted that Streep still sports her wedding band, most recently seen at the Princesa de Asturias Awards last week.
The last public appearance of the duo together was at the 2018 Oscars. Despite the shift in their relationship status, Streep revealed in a 2022 Vogue interview that she remains devoted to her family life. The couple are parents to four children – Henry Wolfe, 43, Mamie Gummer, 40, Grace Gummer, 37, and Louisa Jacobson, 30.
“Raising a family doesn’t come with a manual. It’s a constant negotiation,” she shared with the magazine, emphasizing the significance of “goodwill, flexibility, and the occasional bout of silence.”
In a heartfelt moment at the 2012 Oscars, Streep dedicated her Best Actress award to her husband. “I want to thank Don first, because when you thank your husband at the end of the speech, they play him out with the music. I want him to know that everything I value most in our lives, you’ve given me,” she declared at the time.
