In the midst of global turmoil, some celebrities are stepping up to the plate to effect change. Lauren Sanchez, one of these proactive stars, recently revealed that the Bezos Earth Fund will be channeling $10 million towards Water.org. Sanchez underscored the importance of access to clean water, particularly in developing nations where ineffective water systems often fail to deliver this vital resource to those who need it most.
Sanchez, the Vice Chair of her fiancĂ©, Jeff Bezos’, Earth Fund, has a long-standing commitment to battling climate change and preserving the environment. This generous donation is set to enhance local utility capabilities for clean water and sanitation in the Global South. The statement from the Earth Fund elaborated, “Together, we aim to bolster water utility infrastructure, health, livelihoods, and resilience, while simultaneously reducing energy waste and carbon emissions.”
Sanchez’s Philanthropic Endeavors
The Emmy Award-winning journalist and pilot has been instrumental in leading numerous initiatives under the Earth Fund. Additionally, she collaborates with the “Bezos Day One Fund” and “This is About Humanity,” an organization dedicated to raising awareness and providing aid to families separated and later reunited at the U.S.-Mexico border.
Sanchez’s philanthropic spirit extends to her family as well. Last August, she posted pictures of her son, Nikko G, whom she co-parents with NFL star Tony Gonzalez, volunteering with This Is About Humanity. They visited children in Mexican shelters, providing meals and supplies. Sanchez described the experience as deeply moving, and was particularly touched by the resilience and spirit of the children in the shelters.
The photos suggest that Nikko was actively involved in meal preparation. Sanchez shared, “With my own kids by my side, we came together to make delicious meals, cupcakes and distributed backpacks filled with games, stuffed animals and essential supplies.”
