The ever-radiant Gwyneth Paltrow has had a dazzling career under the klieg lights, but there’s a chance we might lose sight of her once she parts ways with Goop. The actress-turned-entrepreneur has successfully built this lifestyle brand, which is reportedly valued at a cool $250 million. While she’s not quite ready to let go of the reins, she’s hinted at a potential retreat from the public eye once she does.
In a candid chat with Bustle, the “Shallow Hal” luminary shared her thoughts on aging, beauty, family, and more. The topic of fading from the public view came up not once, but twice. When posed with the idea of being a role model for gracefully navigating our 70s and 80s, she quipped, “I might give it a shot, knowing me. Or I might just say, ‘To hell with this.’ I might just vanish, never to be seen again.”
If Paltrow does decide to take a bow and exit stage left, it’s likely to happen post-Goop sale. However, she’s not quite ready to sign on the dotted line, stating, “I need a few more years.” But once that day comes, she asserts, “I will literally vanish from public life. I’ll be gone without a trace.”
Juggling her thriving business and motherhood, Paltrow is a mom to Apple Martin, 19, and Moses Martin, 17, from her previous marriage to Coldplay frontman Chris Martin. She’s also a stepmom to her current husband Brad Falchuk’s children, Brody, 17, and Isabella, 19. If she decides to hold onto Goop, there’s always the possibility that one of them could step up to the plate.
Paltrow reveals that Apple and her sorority sisters are currently “all about Goop,” but her daughter’s primary focus is on her education and maintaining her privacy. “She just wants to be a kid, go to school, and learn,” Paltrow shared, adding, “But there’s nothing wrong with following in your parents’ footsteps.”
In the grand scheme of things, Paltrow’s greatest hope for her children is that they “always feel free to chase their dreams, regardless of what anyone might think or say.”
