American tennis sensation, Coco Gauff, has announced her upcoming visit to Mexico. She is set to participate in the WTA Finals, which will be hosted in the sun-soaked city of Cancun. The tournament is scheduled to commence on October 29th and will run until November 5th.
In a video message released earlier this week, Gauff expressed her excitement about attending the tournament and extended an invitation to her Mexican fans to witness her prowess on the court in person. “I’m thrilled to have qualified for the WTA Finals in Cancun,” she declared, while also sharing the dates of her matches. “I’m eagerly anticipating playing in Cancun and entertaining my Mexican fans.”
In the recent past, Gauff made her mark at the China Open, where she reached the semi-final stage before a shoulder injury forced her to withdraw. Prior to this setback, she had been on a roll with a 16-match winning streak – the best by any female player in the current tennis season. Notably, she also clinched the US Open title, becoming the youngest player to do so since Serena Williams.
Gauff’s Chinese Sojourn
During the China Open, Coco Gauff seemed to thoroughly enjoy her time, embracing the local culture with open arms. She was warmly welcomed at the Beijing Capital International Airport with a bouquet of flowers. “This summer has been monumental for me and I’m eager to build on my US Open victory and conclude what’s been an incredible year on a high note,” she said about the competition. “We always relish playing in front of the Chinese fans, so I’m really looking forward to that.”
She also took part in a variety of cultural activities, such as tea tasting, and even learned how to write a few words in Chinese calligraphy. You can read more about her Chinese adventure here.
