Pop icon Britney Spears is setting the record straight about her latest book, The Woman in Me. The book, which hit the shelves on October 24, has been making waves in the media, stirring up a storm of revelations involving big names like Justin Timberlake and Colin Farrell. Spears took to Instagram on Friday to clarify her intentions.
The buzz around Timberlake has been particularly loud in relation to the book. Spears, however, did not name names in her statement, reassuring her audience, “My book’s purpose was not to offend anyone by any means.” She added, “That’s in the past.”
Spears also took the opportunity to express her dissatisfaction with the media, stating, “I don’t like the headlines I am reading,” and revealing, “That’s exactly why I quit the business 4 years ago.”
Spears, who has since moved on, described her current state as a “beautiful clean slate,” which she says has brought her “closure.” “This is actually a book I didn’t know needed to be written,” she shared. “Although some might be offended, it has given me closure on all things for a better future,” the 41-year-old added.
The “Lucky” singer expressed her hope that the book “can enlighten people who feel particularly alone in most cases or hurt or understood.” She clarified that her intention “was not to harp on my past experiences which is what the press is doing and it’s dumb and silly.”
Timberlake and Farrell
Despite an accidental early release in Mexico, many aspects of the book remain a mystery. What has been revealed, however, has left many stunned, such as her confession about terminating a pregnancy because Timberlake was not ready for fatherhood.
Amidst the revelations, a source told People that Timberlake is doing well, focusing on new music, and his family. The former NSYNC member was recently seen enjoying an Elton John concert with his wife, Jessica Biel.
Another Hollywood heavyweight mentioned in the book is Farrell. Spears recounts a two-week-long passionate affair with the In Bruges star following her split from Timberlake, which left her heartbroken. After Timberlake allegedly slept with multiple women post their breakup, Spears decided it was time to move on.
A club promoter introduced her to Farrell, and she described their time together as a “Brawl.” “Brawl is the only word for it—we were all over each other, grappling so passionately it was like we were in a street fight,” she wrote.
However, at the premiere of Farrell’s 2003 movie, The Recruit, Spears admitted she was not over Timberlake. “As I had before when I’d felt too attached to a man, I tried to convince myself in every way that it was not a big deal, that we were just having fun, that in this case, I was vulnerable because I wasn’t over Justin yet.”
